First and foremost, the kidney continues to do its thing very well. My creatinine level, which is one of the main indicators of kidney function, was .9 at my last labs, which is below the normal range of 1-1.3. Always good to hear.
I finished the second round of antibiotics for the urinary tract infection on Friday. All the indications are that we got it this time. Also, the kidney cyst seems to have finally exhausted itself. Yay!
I was able to do some yard work this past Friday and Saturday. That is significant in that it not only meant I was physically able to do it, it was dry enough to mow (which it hasn't been for weeks). While I didn't do as much or move as quickly as I would if fully healthy, I was exhausted at the end of the day, as was Nancy, who gave her all to help get things done. It did feel good to be tired from exertion instead of just from recovering.
Another milestone was on Sunday, when I was able to attend my first game of the year in St. Louis.
We (Nancy and I, Annie, and Mollie and Chris) had a great time at the game and at a birthday dinner for Chris afterwards (joined by a special friend of Annie's), where we also got to see the incredible first half of the women's World Cup final. Nancy and Mollie did the driving, saving me some exertion. It was a very good day.
This morning was my follow-up with the urologist. Six weeks ago he started me on a procedure to open up the stricture in the urethra and keep it open. Unfortunately, despite those efforts, the scar tissue got denser and the stricture more severe. So today we looked at alternatives.
Continuing on the current course is not much of an option, given how it has gone so far. Surgery is the alternative, and the doctor outlined several possibilities. After doing some imaging, he determined that the stricture is very accessible and that the required surgery should be minimal. We decided to proceed, so it will be done out-patient on Friday and should take about an hour. Hopefully after a three-week healing period things will be as back to normal as possible. It would be a big thing to get off of my mind.
Still some things to deal with, but we're moving forward.
