A status update post is long overdue. The fact is that besides the bustle of the holiday season and the kids being home, and my retirement at the end of the year and all the last-minute trying to get things wrapped up, I just haven't felt like posting here.
Other things aside, it's been a very up-and-down ride physically for the last 3+ weeks due to an ongoing cyst episode. Pain has ranged from 0 to 11 on a 1-10 scale (that Spinal Tap level put me in the hospital overnight), and there have been accompanying discomforts along the way. It's taken a mental and emotional toll, as well as sapping my energy.
The good news is that it hasn't all been awful, such as being able to spend time with the kids. The better news is that the new kidney has been totally unaffected. The not-so-good news is that there's no indication that this episode is over nor any about what might yet develop. I see the doctor in March for my one-year checkup, and one topic will be a risk/benefit analysis of removing one or both of my original polycystic kidneys. I already know which way I'm leaning....
