Since the surgery was removing two very large kidneys swollen with fluid, we were curious about how much weight and girth I would lose. So we checked those measurements immediately beforehand and again now when I got home.
Surprise, surprise, surprise! I've added five inches around the waist and 22 pounds. Given whatever I lost through the removal of the kidneys themselves and the blood loss from the surgery, that provides an indication of how much blood and IV fluids they pumped back into me.
I think it's going to be a while before we have a reasonable estimate of what I actually lost.
