Good Friday

I have been given a gift. That is the subject of this blog; it's the story of that gift. It is a gift freely given out of love. It is a gift that has cost the giver in not insignificant ways. I am deeply grateful for the gift, and I have been remarkably changed by that gift.

Today is the day that we remember and revere the historical event of the giving of another, far greater gift, given at far greater cost, and for which we were far less worthy. Jesus, both son of God and son of man, gave his life, freely and without any expectation of reciprocity, for each and every one of us. He gave his very life so that we can live. His gift, which we did not deserve in even the tiniest degree, has brought us back from the dead to live forever with our God and our true father, a life so far beyond any inkling of life that our present lives offer.

If you have accepted his gift, remember, revere, and rejoice in it. If you haven't yet, I encourage you to investigate it for yourself. Set aside your preconceptions and look at it with open, honest eyes.

I have been given a gift. It is a great gift, freely given, and I am deeply grateful for it. But neither Tom nor I would ever, ever equate this giving and receiving with the gift that both of us and so many others have received from Jesus. That is truly a gift of life.
